The Superintendencies

Within Palazzo Reale, with access from the Cortile del Belvedere, are the two Superintendencies responsible for the protection of the archaeological, architectural, artistic, and landscape heritage of the city of Naples and its Metropolitan Area. They are housed in spaces beneath the terrace of the Hanging Garden, which once served as court facilities (including an armory, foundries, and a printing house). On the ground floor, the private apartment where King Ferdinand II received guests, decorated in the refined “Pompeian style,” is still preserved.
